#### Problem

Consider the air-pollution data given in Tables 1.5. Construct a *Q*–*Q* plot for the solar radiation measurements and carry out a test for normality based on the correlation coefficient *r _{Q}* [see (4-31)]. Let α=.05 and use the entry corresponding to

*n*= 40 in Table 4.2.

#### Solution

The Q-Q Plot is shown below:

Since *r _{Q}*= 0.970 < 0.973 (See Table 4..2 for n = 40 and .a = 0.05) t we would reject the hypothesis of normality at the 5% level.
